How can Social Entrepreneurs and science-policy interfaces leverage STI towards achieving the 2030 agenda?

Background Information The 2030 Agenda put high expectations on Science, Technologies and innovation (STI) to accelerate progress towards its 17 ambitious SDGs. Several key obstacles remain challenging in scaling-up the deployment of proven technologies for SDGs and engaging into long term change in practices and culture. Among some of the key obstacles are the disconnecting between researchers, industry, policymakers, civil society, etc. and users/citizens; the bridging of the so-called innovation chasm to ensure the practical realization of novel ideas within the realm of reality; the need to facilitate the emergence of local innovative ecosystem driven by creative tools and methodologies. In this regard, how to incentive, innovate and open new partnerships is a decisive question. This side-event brings together several stakeholders, especially new emergent actors so called “social scipreneurs”, which effectivelyleverage science, technology and innovation to answer the SDGs. Especially SDG 7 and 11, as well as leaders of emerging STI/society models - reinforcing science and policy interconnections in an innovative way, with high impact in terms of accelerating progress towards the 2030 agenda.
